My cat Ponçik was lying motionless all the time. Even though she loved food, she wouldn’t eat the food I put in front of her. To cheer her up, I gave her wet food, her favorite. But this was where I experienced the biggest heartbreak. My cat, who adored wet food above all else, didn’t touch it either. I immediately called the vet. They said her lack of appetite could indicate a serious illness. It was around 1:00 AM. I took a taxi and went to the vet. My cat’s temperature had reached 40°C. They told me there might be issues with her kidneys or other internal organs. Some tests needed to be done, which would take about an hour. They took my cat inside and asked me to wait outside.
While waiting, I went through the most difficult moments of my life. If anything happened to her, I knew I would face severe psychological challenges. As I waited, the doctor came out with my cat’s empty carrier in his hand. He said, “While we were performing the tests, your cat got very scared and panicked.” I couldn’t understand what had happened. With a trembling voice, I shouted, “Did she die?”
“No,” said the vet. “Your cat didn’t die. She just didn’t want to undergo the tests. When we insisted, she acted wildly and broke a nail.” Learning that my cat was alive brought me back to my senses. The test results showed that her internal organs were fine. The doctor said her fever was very high. They gave her an antipyretic and an appetite stimulant injection and administered IV fluids for about two hours. They told me I’d need to bring her back for IV treatment for four consecutive days.
By the time her IV was done, it was around 3:30 or 4:00 AM, and I had to leave for work at 5:15 AM. The vet charged me 6,000₺ for the treatments. Considering the area we live in, this was a high amount to spend on a cat. Some of my friends even mocked me when they heard about it. But nothing was more important than my daughter’s health. I would have paid not just 6,000₺ but even 60,000₺ if necessary. I’m deeply in love with her. She is a gift from God to me.
Anyway, when I arrived home around 4:15 AM, I was overjoyed to see her start eating wet food as soon as we got back. I didn’t sleep all night, and half an hour later, I had to leave for work. I went to work and took her to the vet four nights in a row. By the fourth day, she had completely recovered. But the pain I experienced during those days is truly indescribable. I hope everyone’s little ones stay healthy and live long lives.
